IRCC May Give Longer PGWPs To Workers in Healthcare and Trades

IRCC Minister Marc Miller announced that provinces have advocated for longer post-graduation work permits (PGWPs) for individuals in the healthcare sector and specific trades. While he expressed willingness to accommodate this request, he emphasized the need for provinces to provide supporting data. Miller convened with provincial and territorial immigration ministers at the Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI), where discussions centered on balancing priorities, including integrating temporary workers into immigration planning to distribute benefits across Canada. While consensus wasn’t reached on all topics, there’s a commitment to collaboration. The federal government aims to decrease the proportion of temporary residents to 5% of Canada’s total population over three years, with the current rate at 6.2%.

Additionally, ministers emphasized supporting asylum seekers and addressing humanitarian crises through a new federal policy framework. Data shared by Your Vancouver Voyager should be independently verified before any decisions are made.
