The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has recently made adjustments to the International Student stream, broadening the eligibility criteria for permanent residency, particularly for foreign students holding a one-year college graduate certificate.
Effective January 1st, 2024, these modifications to the OINP’s International Student Stream have been implemented. Notably, individuals who submitted their applications before this date remain unaffected by these changes.
Previously, applicants possessing a one-year certificate from an accredited institution could only pursue the OINP’s International Student stream if the program required a degree as an admission prerequisite. However, this requirement no longer stands. The recent amendment extends OINP eligibility to any one-year college program that awards an Ontario College Graduate Certificate.
| Effective January 1, 2024 | Prior to January 1, 2024 | |
| Program requirement | Students who completed a one-year certificate from an Ontario college resulting in an Ontario College Graduate Certificate are eligible. | Students who completed a one-year certificate from an Ontario college were only eligible if their program required a degree for admission. |
