Driver fined $1,500 for speeding in North Vancouver bus lane

A driver has been fined $1,500 and received three demerit points for speeding in a North Vancouver bus lane.

During traffic enforcement on the evening of October 6, 2023, a North Van RCMP officer on a police motorcycle observed a white Ford F-150 traveling at high speed in a bus lane leading toward the Second Narrows Bridge in the 1300 block of Main Street.

The driver was stopped, and a fine was issued for driving without due care and attention. Last week, the driver pleaded guilty in provincial court in North Vancouver.

RCMP Const. Mansoor Sahak stated, “The RCMP uses a variety of tools and vehicles for traffic enforcement in high crash locations. In this case, we received numerous complaints about drivers using the bus lane on Main Street to bypass traffic congestion.”

The motorcycle was chosen for enforcement because it allows officers to be discreet and react quickly.
